IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions
If you are 70½ or older, you may give up to $100,000 per year directly from your IRA to 501(c)(3) charities. The transfer generates neither taxable income nor a tax deduction, so you still benefit even if you do not itemize deductions. It can satisfy all or part of your required minimum distribution. Married couples may each give up to $100,000 from their own IRA accounts.

The check should be payable to “Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago” and mailed to:

Download the "IRA Transfer Letter" from the Document section on this page or request it from Margaret Hughes at (312) 655-7012 or Your IRA administrator may require other forms besides our sample letter, so please contact your provider to be sure all steps are completed for your distribution.

Charitable Gift Annuities
Making a donation to Catholic Charities through a charitable gift annuity provides you with secure, stable income for life. The annuity rate is based on your age at the time that you make your gift. The minimum age is 55, and the minimum donation is $10,000 in cash or securities.

With our high payout rates, you may receive more income than you are currently earning from your investments. You will receive an immediate tax deduction for part of your gift. A portion of the annuity payments are tax-free.
