 About this Region

Catholic Charities’ West Regional office at 1400 S. Austin Blvd., Cicero, offers an array of services and programs for youths, adults, senior citizens, and families.

Services include a food pantry, clothing room, counseling, immigration assistance, legal assistance, and housing programs.

Volunteers are needed and welcome.

Our West Regional office serves the following communities: Bellwood, Berkeley, Berwyn, Broadview, Brookfield, Cicero, Elmwood Park, Forest Park, Franklin Park, Hillside, Hinsdale, La Grange, La Grange Park, Lyons, Maywood, Melrose Park, Northlake, Oak Brook, Oak Park, River Forest, River Grove, Riverside, Schiller Park, Westchester, and Western Springs.‚Äč

SERVICES

  • Family Stabilization Services is the point of entry for those seeking emergency assistance, case assessment, advocacy and/or referral to Catholic Charities’ programs or community resources. Services are available to Spanish-speaking. For more information, call (877) 426-6515.
  • Food Pantry is an emergency food distribution that allows clients the opportunity to select their own non-perishable food items, meats, dairy products and produce. Clients can choose from a wide variety of foods to meet their own dietary needs and tastes. Hours are Monday and Tuesdays, 9:30 to 11 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m., and Thursdays, 2 to 6 p.m. For more information, call (708) 222-1491.
  • Clothing Room provides new or gently used clothing, footwear and outerwear to families in need. Open Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, call (708) 222-1491.
  • New Hope Apartments Program-West provides rapid rehousing service to homeless families with children. Services include intensive case management, personal financial education, individualized employment assistance, counseling and community referrals to help families become self-sufficient. For more information, call (708) 329-4043.
  • Immigration and Naturalization Services is a Department of Justice (DOJ) recognized program and DOJ accredited staff. Provides high-quality, low-cost immigration legal services on a broad range of matters involving family-based petitions, naturalization/citizenship, replacement/renewal of lawful permanent residence cards (Green Cards), U visas, Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) applications and outreach to educate and inform immigrant communities of the rights and the benefits to which they may be entitled. Our staff is bilingual in English and Spanish. For more information, call (708) 329-4031 Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 2-4 p.m.
  • Catholic Charities Legal Assistance offers clients basic legal advice and referral services from CCLA attorneys via a telephone hotline and in-person. Most services are free and available in Spanish. For more information, call (312) 948-6821.
  • Pregnancy, Parenting and Adoption Support provides confidential counseling to individuals and families as they make life choices, and offers post-adoption support, registry and search and reunion services. For more information, call (312) 655-7086.
  • Supportive Services for Veteran Families provides veterans in Lake and suburban Cook counties who are experiencing homelessness, or imminent homelessness, with emergency housing and homelessness prevention, case management services and connections to benefits from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. For more information, call (708) 329-4057.
  • St. Mary of Celle Family Strengthening Center is a multi-service center that provides programming and free classes to the Cicero/Berwyn community designed to strengthen families, including health and wellness activities, computer training, English language proficiency classes, art, music and more. Located at 1448 Wesley Ave., Berwyn.   • St. Mary of Celle Early Childhood Development Center provides high-quality early childhood education and care, preparing children ages 2-5 for success in kindergarten and beyond. Their holistic approach includes a focus on language and physical, social/emotional and cognitive development, and ensures that children are receiving the highest individualized attention. They partner with parents and work together as a team to support children through their early years. They also provide before- and after-school care for children through age 12, with full-day care on school holidays and throughout the summer. Located at 1448 Wesley Ave., Berwyn. COUNSELING

  • Community Counseling and Addiction Services provides counseling and case management services to individuals, couples and families with emotional, behavioral, relationship or family problems, including marital and parent-child conflict. Those seeking services may be facing a wide range of social and personal problems affecting their ability to cope, including homelessness, domestic violence, substance use and addiction, sexual abuse, a trauma or family issues related to conflict in relationships, disability or illness such as HIV/AIDS, or parent-child issues. In network with BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, Medicare and Medicaid. A subsidized fee scale based on household income and family size is available to those who do not have insurance. Counseling is available in English and Spanish. For information call (312) 655-7725. 
  • LOSS (Loving Outreach to Survivors of Suicide) provides services for those who are grieving a death by suicide of a family member or close friend.  The LOSS Program offers monthly group meetings in Spanish on the 2nd Tuesday of the month from 5 to 6:45 p.m. LOSS also provides services one-to-one to children, by appointment. For more information, call (312) 655-7283

SERVICES FOR SENIORS

  • Accolade Adult Day Care provides supervised day care and programming in a pleasant, safe environment to help frail adults with socialization, orientation, recreation and health monitoring. Located at 112 S. Humphrey Ave., Oak Park. For more information, call (708) 445-1300.
  • Senior Food and Nutrition Program is a supplemental food program through the United States Department of Agriculture that provides free monthly food packages, plus nutrition and health information, to income-eligible individuals 60 and older. For more information, call Claudia Andrade at (708) 329-4023.

Food Pantry, Cicero

  • Assist in our food pantry during its regular hours of operation.
  • Greet and guide clients, pack food bags, help clients with their bags and/or assist with client intake.
  • Help unload food deliveries from the Greater Chicago Food Depository, organize food items in pantry.
  • Organize a food drive to help us meet the growing need in our communities

Clothing Room, Cicero 

  • Assist clients during the regular hours of operation.
  • Sort donations; flexible hours.
  • Organize a clothing drive to help us meet increasing demand.

Regional office, Cicero

  • Reception support; greet visitors and answer calls.
  • Administrative support; flexible hours.

Fundraising events

  • St. Patrick’s Day Celebration (March) – Sponsor, support, volunteer for this event, which benefits services for homeless families. Creative talents welcomed to help prepare gift baskets for the silent auction and raffles.
  • Brighter Futures Golf Outing (September) – Join in on the fun; assist with the raffle and sponsorships for this event benefiting services for homeless families.

SMART Tutoring Program, Cicero

  • Assist grammar school youth with their homework and help organize educational and recreational activities.
  • Donate healthy snacks and juice for the program.

New Hope Apartments transitional housing program

  • Sponsor a family by providing rent/utility assistance and/or in-kind donations.
  • Share your professional expertise by conducting a workshop for families related to budgeting, health care, nutrition and job search.
  • Participate in the annual Success Day event, honoring graduates of the program (summer or early fall).

Health Fair

  • Volunteer at the annual West Region health fair at St. Frances of Rome Church in August.
  • Organize a backpack and school supplies drive for the Health Fair.
